He will talk about his work titled “An examination the role of the Internet in the sexual identity development processes of gay, bisexual, and questioning male adolescents.”
Douglas Bruce is a Senior Research Associate in the Master of Public Health Program at DePaul University. He has conducted research and program evaluation in the HIV prevention and treatment and substance abuse treatment arenas in the U.S. and internationally for the past 12 years. His research interests are in how stigma and identity development interact in the behavioral health of gay male adolescents and emerging adults.
Dr. Bruce was scheduled as a speaker because PFLAG Chicago has heard a lot from parents, especially with young LGBT children, who are understandably concerned about their kids going on the internet to explore their sexual and gender identities. The internet can be a good place for LGBT children to explore their identities, but there are concerns about safety and getting quality information. Doug’s talk will attempt to address these issues. Should be a good one!!! See you all soon.
